Cookie Policy

Effective 22 June 2026 · Version 1.0

What cookies are

Cookies are small files a website stores on your device. We use them to keep you signed in, protect the service, and, only with your permission, understand how Makazi is used so we can improve it.

The cookies we use

Essential cookies (always on). These make the site work: your sign-in session, security tokens (CSRF protection), and your saved cookie choices. They do not track you and cannot be turned off, because the service cannot run without them.

Analytics cookies (off by default). If you opt in, we use PostHog to record anonymised usage patterns, such as which pages are popular and where people get stuck, so we can fix and improve things. We do not use these to identify you personally.

Marketing cookies (off by default). We do not run advertising cookies today. If that ever changes, they will stay off until you opt in, and you will be able to opt out at any time.

Your choices

When you first visit Makazi, a banner lets you accept or decline the non-essential categories. You can change your mind at any time from your account page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though essential cookies are needed for sign-in to work.

Why we ask for consent

Kenya has no standalone cookie law. But under the Data Protection Act 2019 and the Data Protection (General) Regulations 2021, cookies that collect personal data count as processing. For any marketing use they count as direct marketing, which needs opt-in consent and a simple way to opt out. That is why everything beyond the essentials is off until you choose otherwise.
